NFL Power Rankings: 30 Best Wide Receivers of All-Time
By Daniel
7. Sterling Sharpe, Green Bay Packers: 109 Points
Although he may enjoy golf now, Sterling Sharpe was once an amazing football player. The neck injury that cut Sharpe’s career short is one of the NFL’s real tragedies. If not for that injury Sharpe may have challenged Jerry Rice for many of his all-time receiving records. In just seven years in the NFL Sharpe amassed more ‘points’ than all receivers in NFL history except for the six in front of him. As far as ‘points per year’ (in this system) he came in slightly ahead of Rice. But injuries are a part of the game, thus he comes in at No. 7 on this list.
Three times Sharpe led the league in receptions, twice he led the league in receiving touchdowns and once he led the NFL in receiving yards. Three times he was named First Team All-Pro and five times was named to the Pro Bowl. He was on pace to become one of the NFL’s all-time greatest players, even so he comes in ranked particularly high on this list. He was that dominant.
