Russell Westbrook helped lead the Oklahoma City Thunder to an easy win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday night, but he chucked up one ugly air ball in the process.

Take a contested three-pointer to try and be the hero. Check.

Up to that point, Russell Westbrook was going through the usual steps. The thing is, he makes these crazy shots more often than he should.

That’s where things went wrong in this case. Suffice it to say Westbrook did not make this desperate three-point attempt. As a matter of fact, he missed everything with one of the most comically awful air balls you will see:

It’s really difficult to out-sad the 2014-2015 Philadelphia 76ers, but for this brief moment, Russell Westbrook did just that.

The Thunder went on to win by 12 points. Westbrook led the way with 27 points and 7 assists. That’s all fine and good, sure, but this moment stands out on its own merits.

It is moments like these, for better or for worse, that ignite the endless debate between people who think Westbrook is overrated and those who think he is underrated. Me? I’m ready to call him appropriately rated and then laugh when his style of play results in an air ball.
