The Buffalo Sabres, it seems, haven’t lost sight of the Connor McDavid-esque final goal this season

Buffalo, I thought we talked about this.

More from Buffalo Sabres

Earlier this week, I went over some of the craziest trades I’ve heard suggested by NHL fans this season… and one of those was to get rid of Jonas Enroth for playing too well.

I reasoned that this would mean the Sabres were point-blank scrapping any rebuild improvements in favor of tanking for one final season — what kind of team would put their fans through that again? I suggested.

Well — apparently the Buffalo Sabres are the kind of team that would put their fans through that again, as the Score’s Thomas Drance has suggested the Atlantic Division franchise is looking to sell off one of their two netminders right now.

If either goalie was still Ryan Miller, I’d say okay — after all, it’s no secret that the team is open for business when it comes to auctioning off veteran pieces to teams in need when the trade deadline approaches. Brian Gionta could try to stay and finish out his career in his hometown, but guys like blue-liner Josh Gorges are seemingly fair game; and although GM Tim Murray has alluded to a desire to hold off until the market value has gone up for players of interest, it wouldn’t be too out there to see a swap ahead of schedule for the right price.

Most fans assumed a rebuild was the ultimate goal, though — and with both Michal Neuvirth and Jhonas Enroth still only 26, these two second-round picks could help Buffalo out in the long run.

At the very least, Buffalo, hold on to one of them. Just pretend you don’t mind getting better, so us Coyotes fans don’t get angry at your squandering of consistent goaltending.

(That is, unless you want to send one our way. Does Enroth like hot weather?)
