Because the great John Nelson from IDV Solutions, now, you can see exactly where the top players in the country come from with these awesome maps.
Nelson put the maps together to reflect the college football playoff “semifinal” matchups, Alabama vs. Ohio State and Oregon vs. Florida State.
Alabama Crimson Tide (1) vs. Ohio State Buckeyes (4)
Oregon Ducks (2) vs. Florida State Seminoles (3)
Based on population close to its location, Oregon has to recruit more heavily in other places much further than the other three schools. Florida State and Alabama recruit most of their players from the South, and Ohio State has control of the midwest.
Nelson also uses the Air Mile Index to determine how far away the teams players come from to play for the school. Basically, it’s a 0-30 scale; a score of 30 indicates a school recruits everywhere, thus has a further reach.
Here’s the breakdown on the Air Mile Index:
Oregon– 27.0 (farthest)
Alabama– 16.5
Florida State– 16.5
Ohio State– 14.2
The take-away is this: Oregon has to travel much further in recruiting than any of the other three teams involved. Nelson’s map proves just that.
