5. Le’ Veon Bell, Pittsburgh Steelers (242 carries, 1,432 yards, 71 receptions, 693 yards, 8 total touchdowns)

Bell is having one incredible season for the Steelers. He is second in the NFL in rushing and, playing for an organization rich in running back history, may perhaps have the greatest season any running back has had wearing the black and gold.

He has already broken the team record for receptions with 71. He is only the second back in NFL history (ever!) to gain 200 yards from scrimmage in three consecutive games (Walter Payton of the Chicago Bears was the first to do it in 1977).

Last week against the Cincinnati Bengals, Bell had 235 yards from scrimmage (185 rushing, 50 receiving) and three touchdowns to garner the AFC Player of the Week.

Bell’s production has been a godsend for the Pittsburgh offense and, in particular, Ben Roethlisberger. With opposing defenses coming in to stop Bell, Big Ben has been able to find receivers downfield in positive matchups.

Of course, Bell still has that NFL conduct charge over his head. He entered a plea to charges of marijuana possession and DUI. He is due to receive at least a two-game suspension, but it is not clear if it will occur this season. I don’t see Roger Goodell pulling the trigger on that and ruining the Pittsburgh Steelers’ season. He will suspend Bell next season.

Either way, his MVP candidacy could be hurt because of that. Since the MVP is supposed to be only for performance, I have him on this list.
