NBA: Ranking My Favorite Kobe Bryant Performances
8. Detroit Pistons Get Broken
Date: June 8, 2004 vs. Detroit Pistons
Stats: 33 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals
I wanted the Los Angeles Lakers to win this series so bad because I loathed watching the Detroit Pistons. Similar to the San Antonio Spurs, the Pistons were a team first team that had a strong defensive philosophy. Unlike the Spurs though this team had one true all-star who was an absolute monster defensively in Ben Wallace. Kobe Bryant’s Lakers team weren’t really competitive in the 2004 Finals but in game two Bryant made sure his Lakers were prepared.
This game showcased to the world that Bryant is one of the greatest superstars in NBA history. Bryant pulled off a dazzling, epic and iconic moment of his career on the NBA’s largest landscape.
Bryant scored 10 of the last 16 points for the Lakers and made the biggest shot of the night when he tied the game with a clutch three-pointer that left 2.1 seconds left on the clock. The Lakers went on to win the game and Bryant’s shot helped them to not get swept.
