No. 20-17

20. Teddy Bridgewater – Minnesota Vikings – Power Ranking Score: 202.5 (+3)

Confession: As a Chiefs fan and Alex Smith supporter I still REALLY wish that KC had drafted Bridgewater over Dee Ford. I am 100% sold on Bridgewater as a franchise QB and think that five years from now people will find it absurd that Bortles and Manziel were drafted ahead of him. While there is still a lot of room for development I feel that Teddy sees the field and has the best accuracy of all the rookie QBs. There may not be better qualities to have in a QB.

19. Colin Kaepernick – San Francisco 49ers – Power Ranking Score: 207 (+3)

The lack of development in Colin Kaepernick this season is concerning. Kaep is 27 years old, has been in the league for four years, is in his third season as a starter, and has been with the same coach/system the entire time. The fact that Kaepernick really doesn’t look any better than the day he took over for Alex Smith has to make you question if the light bulb will ever come on. One has to wonder what will happen next year if Harbaugh is gone? The 49ers may end up being very thankful that they have “escape options” in the contract that Kaepernick signed.

18. Jay Cutler – Chicago Bears – Power Ranking Score: 213

Chicago Bears fans have to be praying that Marc Trestman is the problem in the Windy City. In a season where Cutler was supposed to be poised to have his best season ever it has turned into one of the NFL’s biggest disappointments of the year. Cutler is still too careless with the football and I think he needs a head coach that will push him and lay down the law in what he expects. It also wouldn’t hurt if the Bears had a respectable defense and there wasn’t quite so much pressure on Cutler and the offense all the time.

17. Cam Newton/Derek Anderson – Carolina Panthers – Power Ranking Score: 214.8/277.3 (+2)

This is another team where the starter for this week is still up in the air as I write this. I actually don’t know if there is a massive drop off from a banged up Cam Newton to a fully healthy Derek Anderson. Anderson’s Power Rankings Score in his limited playing time is actually the ninth highest in all the NFL. Obviously sample size is a major issue here, but you can’t argue that he hasn’t been solid in relief. Hopefully Newton is healthy enough to go this week, but if not I don’t think Panthers fans need to worry about a massive drop off in production based on how both have played this season.
