NFL QB Power Rankings: Ranking The Week 16 Starters
No. 16-13
16. Andy Dalton – Cincinnati Bengals – Power Ranking Score: 221 (+1)
Wait, did Andy Dalton just break into the top half of these QB rankings? Yes, yes he did. Now, a lot of that has to do with other QBs falling off or being sidelined with injuries, but Dalton is having an okay season. His TD to INT ratio is the main problem with 15 TDs and 14 INTs. While Dalton is obviously good enough to get a team into the playoffs, nothing he has done this season gives me any reason to believe that he won’t be one and done again when they get there.
15. Matthew Stafford – Detroit Lions – Power Ranking Score: 234 (+1)
While Matthew Stafford deserves credit for leading the Lions to a potential playoff berth, he’s struggled to find the endzone this season. For comparison, rookie Derek Carr has a similar number of pass attempts and only one less passing TD, despite the fact that Stafford has arguably the best redzone target in all of the NFL in Calvin Johnson. Stafford is having a fine season, but he isn’t doing enough to challenge for a spot in the top ten yet.
14. Alex Smith – Kansas City Chiefs – Power Ranking Score: 245.1 (+1)
This week all I’m going to do is give you Alex Smith’s and Russell Wilson’s numbers side by side.
Alex Smith: 64.9%, 2,954 yards, 7.1 YPA, 18 TDs, 6 INTs, 93.9 QB Rating, 39 sacks
Russell Wilson: 62.6%, 2,897 yards, 7.3 YPA, 18 TDs, 6 INTs, 93.6 QB Rating, 38 sacks
So explain to me why no one has a problem with where Wilson is rated, but most don’t think Smith deserves to be this high?
13. Eli Manning – New York Giants – Power Ranking Score: 249.1 (+1)
While the Giants have struggled again this year, Eli Manning is quietly having a MUCH better season than he did in 2013. His completion percentage is up almost 6% and after an abysmal 18 TD to 27 INT ratio last season he is sitting at 26 TDs and 13 INTs with two games to go in 2014. The Giants may not be back to playing playoff caliber football, but this season that’s not Eli Manning’s fault.
