On Friday morning in Texas five-star LB Malik Jefferson commits to Texas just minutes after his teammate four-star WR DeAndre McNeal commits to play for the school.

Five-star Malike Jefferson chose Texas over Texas A&M and UCLA, a top three that he revealed in clothing choices he wore to school this week. This is the kind of move that can change the whole direction of the Longhorn program. The 6-foot-2 215-pound linebacker will enroll in school in January.

Jefferson, a very special player, is ranked 13th in the nation and widely considered the top outside linebacker nationally. Jefferson is the No. 1 player in Texas, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

If there were any concerns that exist over this five-star player, it is his frame. Even at 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds, Jefferson does not have the wide shoulders that are ideal among linebacker prospects, something that could hinder his development. What he lacks in frame he does make up for in pure heart and passion — which is evident to everyone when he is on the field.

Jefferson is also not a great coverage backer, but he does have elite quickness.

Both his overwhelming talent and ability to attack the ball will make him a likely impact player at the next level in spite of those mild concerns even if he fails to adjust to them early on.

This is likely a program changing commitment for Charlie Strong and the Longhorn faithful. Jefferson’s commitment has the weight to attract fellow five-star recruits to line up with him and don the burnt orange.
