The Flames were looking to end their seven-game losing streak when they took on the Vancouver Canucks, who were on a five-game skid of their own, but things got off to an ugly start.
After a delayed penalty, the Flames pulled their goalie in an effort to bring the extra attacker into the Canucks’ zone.
Unfortunately, a botched pass ended up leading to a disastrous result.
Flames forward Matt Stajan dropped the puck to Dennis Wideman, who then tried to play it back to Mason Raymond. However, Wideman’s pass went by Raymond and trickled all the way down the nice into their own empty net to give Vancouver the lead.
Oof.
Yannick Weber was credited with the goal for the Canucks.
Vancouver ended up winning the game in overtime, 3-2, and Calgary has now lost eight straight.
This is a demoralizing image that will stick with the team and their fans for quite some time.
