At half time the San Diego Chargers were trailing by 21 points to the San Francisco 49ers. It was an incredible come from behind win and one lead by Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers, who threw three touchdown passes in the second half to lead the Chargers back.
It was an impressive performance but one that has become all the more impressive now that we’ve learned from Chris Mortensen that Rivers had a bulging disk in his lower back.
It doesn’t seem like an injury that will affect him for the rest of the season, Rivers has been playing through some pretty significant pain for over a month. With the Chargers still in contention for a playoff spot they likely can’t afford to rest Rivers.
After all, this is a dude who has played through a torn ACL before.
To put in perspective how bad it is, it almost caused him to shut it down.
After the season ends though, he could end up having surgery to alleviate the pain. Nothing is decided and set in stone yet though.
