The Houston Rockets knocked off the Portland Trail Blazers last night behind 44 points from James Harden, but Dwight Howard played a fairly prominent role as well. He scored 16 points to go along with 13 rebounds and four assists.
Howard also made a hilarious hustle play and ended up diving into the second row and tackling a fan that was also reaching for the basketball. He ended up spread eagle diving towards the fan, and the two ended up hugging it out when everything was said and done. It was a very funny play, and drew laughs from the fans and Howard himself.
Take a look at Howard’s dive and hug combination with the fan for yourself:
It’s never safe for fans sitting that close to the court for that exact reason. When a 6’11” and 275-pound man is running at you and diving towards you and you can’t get out of the way, you’re going to wake up a bit sore the next day. Obviously no one was hurt, but it certainly couldn’t have been comfortable at first impact.
All of that being said, it’s good to see hustle like that from a big man. Howard’s attitude has improved in a huge way since joining the Rockets, and they are legitimate contenders this season in the Western Conference if they continue playing to their full potential.
