NFL QB Power Rankings: Ranking The Week 17 Starters
No. 12-9
12. Ryan Tannehill – Miami Dolphins – Power Ranking Score: 263.6
Ryan Tannehill is an intriguing QB. On one hand he doesn’t have the name recognition or hype around him that other young QBs like Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson do (or the team wins for that matter either). On the other hand, Tannehill actually has numbers that aren’t all that far behind those other young QBs. His Total QBR (60.5) is only about four points below those of Luck and Wilson and his PFF grade (+13) is eighth best in the NFL. There is upside here and I think he may be on the verge of a breakout season very soon.
11. Eli Manning – New York Giants – Power Ranking Score: 265.1
The Giants had another disappointing season in 2014 but Eli Manning has played MUCH better than he did in 2013. His Total QBR of 72.7 is literally double what it was last season and he has cut his INTs down to 13 from 27 a year ago. The Giants need to get better this offseason, but QB is not their problem.
10. Russell Wilson – Seattle Seahawks – Power Ranking Score: 271.4
Russell Wilson finally breaks the top ten in the final week of the season. While Wilson’s passing numbers may be closer to Alex Smith’s than they are to the other QBs in the top ten, the fact that he has 842 yards rushing catapults him into this spot. Wilson is actually the 15th leading rusher in all the NFL. Not only is Wilson an expert at picking up yards with his legs, but he is also great at extending plays with them in order to find an open WR.
9. Philip Rivers – San Diego Chargers – Power Ranking Score: 275.6
There was a point early on in the season when you could have made a case for Philip Rivers being a MVP candidate. Now he’s barely hanging on to a spot in the top ten of these rankings. Rivers is still a good QB but he hasn’t been able to go down the field as much as he has in previous seasons. His 5.6 air yards per completion is the lowest of any QB in the top ten.
