The Scope Of This Game Is Unreal

Kickstarter is a funny place. Some projects come out wildly successful and some projects end with people stealing your money. It’s an interesting site. Essentially you are pledging money to someone to help fund their idea. If and when it finally gets completed you then get the product. A lot of people think of it as a pre-ordering system for products, but that’s not really how it operates. You are giving your money to help get the project off the ground, but you are not guaranteed to get exactly what they are claiming to offer.  Some products will be better than their initial offerings while some will fall far short of their financial and feature goals.

Enter Star Citizen.

"From the mind of Chris Roberts, acclaimed creator of Wing Commander and Freelancer, comes STAR CITIZEN. 100% crowd funded, Star Citizen aims to create a living, breathing science fiction universe with unparalleled immersion… and you’re invited to follow every step of development! More than a space combat sim, more than a first person shooter and more than an MMO: Star Citizen is the First Person Universe that will allow for unlimited gameplay."

So Chris Roberts went to Kickstarter to try to raise $500,000 to make this game. To date he has received over 66 MILLION DOLLARS. I’d say they hit their funding goal.

So after the initial funding goal was met, stretch goals were added. These are goals that will try to be met if they receive the proper funding. I’m not going to list all the stretch goals added, you can see them all right here. But needless to say they started adding more and more… and more and more and more features into this game.

Many started to doubt the ability of this game to actually exist. Certainly they thought there would be no way the company could achieve all these goals. The scope in which this game was claiming to achieve seemed unfathomable. In fact, even with this new game footage it still does.

The game is set to come out sometime in 2016 for Windows and Linux. Who knows if they will actually hit that timeframe or not, but for now, just enjoy the new footage. This game looks amazing so far.
