Joe Staley and Anquan Boldin have been fined by the NFL for their actions in Week 16 versus the San Diego Chargers.
Staley was fined $22,050 for criticizing referee Jeff Triplette, according to the Mercury News.
"“I told the ref he was terrible at his job,” Staley said after the Chargers game. When asked if those were his exact words, Staley said, “No, I’m paraphrasing.”Staley’s displeasure stemmed from a sequence in which a Vernon Davis touchdown was nullified by a chop block on running back Frank Gore, followed by a sack of quarterback Colin Kaepernick on a play on which the Chargers recovered a Kaepernick fumble for a touchdown."
Boldin was hit with a lesser fine, $10,000, for “unnecessarily striking an opponent in the head area.”
The 49ers lost the game to the Chargers despite having a two touchdown lead with six minutes left in the contest. The eventual 38-35 loss dropped San Francisco to 7-8 on the season.
It’s no doubt been a terribly disappointing season for the 49ers, who entered the season as a team many believed could possibly make a run at the Super Bowl.
Staley and Boldin have been among the few bright spots for the team. Staley was named to his fourth pro bowl for his play this season and Boldin currently has 981 receiving yards for the year.
