2014 NFL Playoffs: Ranking The Playoff Field
By Evan Massey
6. Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions fell all the way to the sixth playoff seed in the NFC due to their loss against the Green Bay Packers in Week 17. Despite being ranked as the worst playoff team in the NFC, they are far from being the worst.
This coming week, the Lions are going to be heading into Dallas to face the red hot Cowboys. That isn’t going to be an easy win, and the suspension that the NFL handed down to Ndamukong Suh is going to hurt as well. Matthew Stafford is going to have to come up with a big game in order to move forward, but the Lions have shown the ability to win tough games this year.
Detroit does have the 1st ranked defense against the run, although losing Suh is going to hurt them in that area. They also have the 13th ranked defense against the pass. Dallas has a superstar running back to go along with a quarterback that has received a lot of hate in the past for collapsing late in the season.
If the Lions are going to move forward in the playoffs, they are going to need the defense to step up and Stafford to get over his nerves and come up with a huge performance. Calvin Johnson is also going to have to shred through the Dallas defense, and every defense his team faces moving forward.
