Texas Rangers‘ starting pitcher Derek Holland told the world about what happened to him during the earthquake in Dallas this week.

There was an earthquake in Dallas. That brought about a number of reactions from startled people, as well as some jokes from various circles. These came from everyday citizens of Dallas to those outside the city, from NFL players to celebrities to players on MLB rosters.

Besides all the jokes about noted Cowboys’ fan Chris Christie and his possible contributions to the earthquake, the best thing on Twitter was the self-reported incident that befell one Derek Holland.

The goofball left-handed pitcher, increasingly known for his antics and sense of humor off the field as much as his consistently solid contributions on it, took to social media to tell the world what happened to him. And what happened to Derek Holland during the earthquake is both hilarious and embarrassing.

From the man himself:

Two things: first of all, I’m not sure what it says about Holland or those of us who follow him on Twitter that he felt the need to specify that he was naked. You were in the shower, Derek, so yea, we get it.

Secondly, how are we ever supposed to do anything but laugh when Holland’s handle is “Dutch Oven?” And it’s not just a Twitter handle, it’s listed as his nickname on Baseball Reference. That just is not meant to be taken seriously, right? In this case it is a humorous tweet, but if Holland ever takes to that medium to say something serious, how can any reasonable person ever take it as such?

On the baseball side of things, Holland is facing a crucial year in Texas. Limited to just six appearances last season, the lefty posted a 1.46 ERA and a 5.00 K/BB ratio. It is a question of health as much as anything else, but coming off an injury-riddled 2014 for the Rangers in general, there will be an extra sense of injury for this coming season.

As the Rangers look to build the rest of their pitching staff behind Yu Darvish, pitchers like Holland will play a key role. Holland’s stuff still profiles as top-of-the-rotation, he just needs to get back to good health after a lost 2014 season.

Until then, we will continue to enjoy his funny tweets, including this one.
