NFL admits officials missed another penalty against the Cowboys
The NFL has admitted the officiating staff missed another call against the Dallas Cowboys.
In a move that is sure to further twist the knife in the back of the Detroit Lions and their fans, the NFL has admitted yet again that another call was missed on the field by their officials. After referees picked up a pass interference call against the Cowboys was the talk of every sports news outlet yesterday, comes the news of another missed call during a crucial play of the game.

Tony Romo converted a key fourth down play to Jason Witten to keep the Cowboys hopes alive late in the fourth quarter. It appeared that Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was being held down on the ground on the play. However according to Adam Schefter, the play should have been penalized and pushed the Cowboys further back into their own territory.
Schefter posted the following on his facebook account, “NFL admitted to Lions today that officials missed a hold on Ndamukong Suh on the 4th-down conversion from Tony Romo to Jason Witten with 6 minutes left in the game (after the controversial Brandon Pettigrew play and before the Dallas TD). Had holding been called, it would have put Cowboys in 4th and 16 on Detroit side of the field. Dallas would have punted and Detroit still would have the lead. One person said that this is “even worse than the PI call/no call.”
This comes a day after the NFL head of official, Dean Blandino, said the pass interference flag against the Cowboys should not have been picked up by officials.
The Cowboys have appeared to have caught many breaks on their way to victory and these calls and the performance of the league’s officials have overshadowed the Wild Card match up. With social media and everyone’s eyes on the officials, these calls on the field and the league have come under intense scrutiny.
This news isn’t going to make the Lions or their fans any happier as their season is now done, but it does show that changes need to be made so we don’t have referees potentially creating an impact on the outcomes of games. The NFL admitted their mistake and hopefully the same mistakes, when so egregious in nature, do not happen again.
For the Lions and their fans, there is going to be a long offseason of anger and sulking, and deservedly so.
