MVPs

Daniel “Boom” Herron, Running Back, Indianapolis Colts

“Boom” goes the dynamite and “Boooooooom” goes the Indianapolis crowd. The Colt faithful serenaded Daniel Herron often on Sunday with his nickname as he tore up the Cincinnati Bengals with alarming frequency. While he had a stint with the Bengals in 2012, he was rarely utilized and eventually signed with the Indianapolis Colts.

In the six games since Ahmad Bradshaw went down with a season-ending injury, Herron has averaged 73 yards from scrimmage per game, splitting time on the field with Trent Richardson and Zurlon Tipton. Against his former team on Sunday, Herron rushed for 56 yards and a touchdown, and had a team-high 10 receptions for 85 yards, which amounts to a career-high 141 yards from scrimmage.

The sixth-round pick out of (THE) Ohio State averaged 4.7 yards per carry on a defense that allowed 3.1 yards per carry and only one touchdown in their last three games. Herron did lose one fumble, but he was still the well that Colts quarterback Andrew Luck continued to go to if the other options elsewhere on the field were dry.

With Ahmad Bradshaw out for the rest of the season and Richardson taking zero snaps against the Bengals, look for Herron to be the Indianapolis Colts’ feature back and receiving threat out of the backfield.
