6 reasons why Bill Belichick and the Patriots win Super Bowl XLIX
4. The Gronk Factor
Rob Gronkowski is the best tight end in football, and he has been healthy in the 2014 season and that has allowed him to put impressive numbers on the board.
Gronkowski caught 82 passes for 1,124 yards and 12 touchdowns this year, and his combination of size, speed and ability to get open is a constant for the Patriots. Additionally, he is one of the best blocking tight ends in the league. Not only can he help open holes that get running backs to the second level, he also excels at downfield blocking for the receivers.
Most importantly, Gronkowski is versatile. He can make the tough catch on third down and he can also make big runs after the catch and get to the endzone. He is going to be one of the key assignments for strong safety Kam Chancellor and free safety Earl Thomas, and it’s difficult to see either one shutting down Gronk.
