5. New England’s Defense is Underrated

There’s little doubt that the Seattle defense has been the best in the league over the last two years.

On the other hand, the Patriots were an ordinary defense in 2013 before that unit turned the corner in 2014. Defensive coordinator Matt Patricia has put together a unit that can punish opponents in the running game, and take the heart out with its ability to defend the pass.

The presence of cornerback Darrelle Revis means the Patriots have the ability to shut down an opponent’s top receiver. Revis did it against the Colts and T.Y. Hilton and he will most likely be lined up against Doug Baldwin in the Super Bowl.

Linebacker Jamie Collins and defensive end Chandler Jones are both capable of coming around the corner and causing havoc in the backfield, while defensive end Rob Ninkovich is one of the most versatile pass rushers in the league.

The Seahawks are a never-say-die kind of offensive team, but the Patriots appear to have the will to match them in that area.
