Midseason NBA Player Rankings: Steph Curry vs. James Harden
By Bryce Olin
15. John Wall
17.0 PPG, 10.0 APG, 4.2 RPG, 20.7 PER
I keep saying this every week; John Wall has all the tools and skills to be the best point guard in the league except he’s missing a jumpshot.
It sucks!
Wall is a freak athlete, a blur with the ball, and he has great vision, but he can’t shoot. This season, Wall is shooting 46 percent from the field, but he’s also shooting 31 percent from 3-point range.
Washington doesn’t need Wall to be Steph Curry from behind the arc, but they’re leaving so many points on the board because Wall doesn’t have a consistent outside jumper.
Over his last fives games, Wall is shooting even worse. He’s averaging 14.4 points per game on 41 percent shooting. That’s just not good enough for one of the league’s best players.
Wall is a great defender, even better passer, and one of the best 15 players in the league right now, but he has shoot better if the Wizards are going to go anywhere this season.
Against the Thunder on Wednesday, Washington had a chance to bury the Thunder and win the game, but Wall couldn’t get it going offensively. He finished the game with 18 points on 6-of-17 shooting. If Wall makes just one more shot, the Wizards win the game.
Those are risks you run with a point guard who can’t shoot against another point guard who can.
