By Andrew Ross
39.) Super Bowl XII – Dallas Cowboys vs. Denver Broncos
This was the first Super Bowl ever played during prime time, and Dallas took the opportunity to defeat Denver 27-10.
Roger Staubach had a solid outing by completing 17/25 passes for 183 yards and a touchdown, but it was Staubach’s defense that stole the show.
Dallas picked off Craig Morton four times and forced four fumbles for a whopping eight turnovers.
As if it wasn’t bad enough for Denver, Morton and Norris Weese combined for a total eight completions in a game that they were always needing to throw.
The Super Bowl MVP honors was split between defensive end Harvey Martin and defensive tackle Randy White.
This was the first time a defensive lineman was ever recognized for the award, and it was also the first and only time the award has ever been shared.
