44.) Super Bowl XXIX – San Francisco 49ers vs. San Diego Chargers

San Francisco was favored by 18.5 points (most any team has ever been favored in a Super Bowl) coming into the game, and we were quickly reminded why as the 49ers dominated the Chargers on their way to a 49-26 victory.

The 49ers were favored by so much because they had the league’s highest-scoring offense that led them to a 13-3 regular season record, whereas the Chargers were 11-5 in the regular season and had to give it their all just to get to the Super Bowl.

Steve Young had proven to be a very good quarterback, but he still had to get out of Joe Montana’s shadow who he sat behind for two Super Bowl victories.

Well, Young made sure people weren’t thinking about Montana anymore as he won the MVP award by completing 24/36 of his passes for 325 yards and six touchdowns (most ever in a Super Bowl).

Young was also the leading rusher in the game with 49 yards, and that was the first time a quarterback had ever accomplished that.

The 10 total touchdowns and 75 combined points scored are both Super Bowl records.
