No. 21 Vernon Davis, San Francisco 49ers

To call Vernon Davis a mere mismatch is not sufficient. A two way star in high school in both track and football, Davis is a physical freak – 6′ 5″, 255lbs, ran the forty yard dash in 4.38 seconds and turned in 33 bench press reps at the combine (225 lbs). Davis is an example of what is now sought out of the tight end position: a capable and willing blocker on run downs, with wide receiver speed and the ability to get open by dominating his one-on-one matchup with whatever defender is assigned to him.

In nine seasons, he’s amassed almost 5,500 yards receiving and 55 touchdowns – reeling in 13 scoring passes in two separate seasons. The best tight ends in today’s game have become deadly red zone targets, and few are better at cashing in than Vernon Davis. Davis has 2 Pro Bowl appearances so far.
