NFL Power Rankings: 30 best TE of all-time
No. 16 Jay Novacek, Los Angeles Rams / Phoenix Cardinals / Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys went on a run of dominance in the early 90s that few teams have ever matched in the history of the game, winning three Super Bowls in four years. That team is best remembered for its dominant offensive line and array of weapons at the skill position, but it could be argued that without a reliable tight end, the Cowboys may not have gotten over the top.
Jay Novacek had bounced around a bit for the first 5 years of his career, playing for the Rams and Cardinals before landing in Dallas in 1990. A mediocre career suddenly transformed into annual appearances in the Pro Bowl – 5 straight in 6 seasons – and a selection to the All Pro team. Though not among the career leaders in tight end yards or touchdowns, he was one of the most important pieces of the championship puzzle in Dallas.
