23. John Riggins in Super Bowl XVII

RB, Washington ‘Redskins’

John Riggins was the epitome of a workhorse back on Jan. 30, 1983 for Washington. He carried the ball an amazing 38 times and churned out 166 yard fought yards on the ground. Although it was his play in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl that took his day from great to legendary.

With Washington down 17-13 in the fourth quarter Riggins finally broke through the Miami Dolphin’s defense for a 43 yard touchdown run. The ‘Skins wouldn’t look back as they took a 20-13 lead, eventually winning 27-17. His performance was as memorable as they come and he was named MVP of the game. He’s one of many Washington players on this list.
