9. Super Bowl IV – Chiefs 23, Vikings 7

Heading into Super Bowl IV, the Minnesota Vikings were favored to win the game by 12 points. That didn’t end up happening, and the game ended up going the other way by 16 points. Kansas City proved that the AFL was equal to the NFL, even though the AFL would merge into the NFL the next season.

Despite the New York Jets winning the Super Bowl the season before, there were many that didn’t believe the AFL was equal. This win by the Chiefs was exactly the thing that was needed to shut those critics up.

The Chiefs’ defense was outstanding in the game, and forced three interceptions and two fumbles. Those numbers are extremely dominant, and Minnesota didn’t stand a chance with the all-around game that Chiefs came in with. It was without a doubt one of the biggest upsets in NFL history, and it proved a point that could have never been proved again after that.
