Lynch, Marshawn

Marshawn Lynch made headlines immediately before the NFC Championship Game for wanting to wear gold cleats to supposedly honor a fallen friend, though there were few details available online to support the second half of that claim. Upon gaining wind of his intentions, the NFL threatened to eject Lynch from the game.

Instead, he came out with green cleats which featured gold soles.  As a result, the league fined him $20,000, and apparently could fine him more. He later made headlines for grabbing his groin after scoring a 24-yard rushing touchdown late in the fourth quarter, which helped the Seahawks force overtime, and eventually capture their second consecutive NFC title in super exciting fashion.

Lynch, aka Beast Mode dating back to his time at Cal, is set to become a free agent this winter/spring. He lives up to his nickname, as he has missed only eight games in his nine-year career (only one has been with the Seahawks, the team he’s been with since 2010).

The punishing runner first gained national notice when he literally beasted his way to a game-clinching touchdown run in the Seahawks’ upset Wild Card round victory over the New Orleans Saints in the 2011 playoffs.

Lynch had his second best season in 2014, in total rushing yards, 1,306, and yards per carry, 4.7. And his career high 13 rushing touchdowns led the NFL. Lynch’s success will go a long way to determining which team wins on Sunday.
