2) Steve Young, San Francisco 49ers, Super Bowl XXIX

Steve Young is the holder of a Super Bowl record that may never be broken. The “other” 49ers quarterback is a Hall of Fame player in his own right, and for one night in Miami, he was out of his mind.

Young completed six touchdown passes in only 36 pass attempts (and 24 completions) in leading San Francisco to a 49-26 beatdown of the San Diego Chargers. Naturally, those six touchdown passes speak for themselves with regard to Young’s place on this list, but he also finished the day with 325 yards and no interceptions, in case you need the case to be further cemented.

It remains a shame that Steve Young was trapped behind Joe Montana for so many years, but it is fantastic for the game that he was able to emerge and dominate in this fashion. This would have been a worthy choice for the number one spot, and Young was an impressive talent.
