14) Doug Williams, Washington Redskins – Super Bowl XXII

Super Bowl XXIII is remembered by many as the “Timmy Smith game”, as the little-known Washington running back scampered for 204 yards, setting a record that still stands. However, Washington’s quarterback on that day was pretty good in his own right, and his name was Doug Williams.

Williams was named Super Bowl MVP after he completed 18 of 29 passes for 340 yards and four touchdowns, and those numbers speak for themselves. The former Grambling star was rocketed onto the national landscape as a result of his performance, and there were several “dime” throws in this particular game, including an 80-yard touchdown connection.

Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego has been the site of many Super Bowls, and Doug Williams left his mark on the setting while leading his squad to a 42-10 victory.
