13) John Elway, Denver Broncos – Super Bowl XXXIII

Players dream of “riding off into the sunset” with a Super Bowl victory in their final professional game, and John Elway got to live out that reality with Super Bowl XXXIII. The Broncos topped the Atlanta Falcons (remember Eugene Robinson?) by a score of 34-19, and with the win, Denver was the recipient of back-to-back championships.

While Terrell Davis was unquestionably the star of Denver’s first Super Bowl win the previous season, this one belonged to John Elway. Elway threw for 336 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown connection with Rod Smith, and for good measure, the grizzled veteran added a rushing touchdown where he sacrificed his body for a play that often runs in highlight packages to this day.

Denver was simply the better team here, but Elway put his stamp on the game in a significant way, and that certainly matters in this space. It doesn’t get much better.
