Head Coach. STL, SD. Don Coryell. 15. player. 13.
Don Coryell coached the St. Louis Cardinals from 1973-1977 and had three double-digit win seasons and two division titles. The playoff appearances were the first for the franchise since 1948 and the only playoff appearances while in St. Louis after moving from Chicago.

After leaving the Cardinals he was named the head coach of the San Diego Chargers and went 8-3 after taking over a 1-4 team. The 9-7 finish was the organization’s first winning season since 1969. He would win the division the next three years with Dan Fouts as his quarterback and his “Air Coryell” offense rewrote the record books.

The Chargers led the NFL in seven times from 1978 to 1985, including six straight from 1978 to 1983. They led the NFL in total offense in five of those years and produced Hall of Famer’s in Fouts, wide receiver Charlie Joiner and tight end Kellen Winslow.

Coryell revolutionized the passing offenses of the NFL, developed all-purpose backs and turned the tight end position into a glorified wide receiver and was instrumental in the coaching philosophy of Bill Walsh, Joe Gibbs, John Madden, among others.
