Super Bowl 49: Ranking the most dramatic finishes

3. Super Bowl XXV: New York Giants 20, Buffalo Bills 19
Super Bowl XXV provided a moment of great despair for a franchise which made four consecutive Super Bowls and left as the losing team in each. It also produced a moment of glee for the proud New York Giants franchise, which quietly ranks among the top of the league in Super Bowl titles.
And perhaps most importantly, it inspired one of the greatest comedies of all-time, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. This fact cannot be confirmed, but it must be true.
The laces out bit combined with the fuzzy video of Ray Finkle missing the kick which lost the Super Bowl for Miami is awfully reminiscent of the kick which Buffalo kicker Scott Norwood botched as time expired.
To be fair, it was a 47-yard attempt with time expiring, which sailed wide right. It was a fascinating low scoring contest, which Buffalo led 12-10 at halftime.
The Giants set a Super Bowl record by possessing the football for over 40 minutes, running 73 plays. Yet Buffalo’s explosive offense was nearly enough to win them the game. Key in the game was the opening drive for the Giants which lasted 9:29 and resulted in a one-yard touchdown run by MVP Ottis Anderson.
Thurman Thomas, though, scored from 31 yards out on the first play of the fourth quarter, recapturing the lead for Buffalo, 19-17. It was a 21-yard field goal from Giants kicker Matt Bahr which ended up being the winner, with 7:20 to go in the game.
