Interior Defensive Lineman

  • Joe Greene – Pittsburgh Steelers – 4-0, 1 INT, 1 Sack, 1 Fumble Recover and 1 Forced Fumble
  • Bob Lilly – Dallas Cowboys – 1-1, 1 Sack, 8.5 Total Tackles

Edge Defender

  • Lawrence Taylor – New York Giants – 2-0, 6.5 Total Tackles
  • LC Greenwood – Pittsburgh Steelers – 4-0, 5 Sacks

Linebacker

  • Ray Lewis – Baltimore Ravens – 2-0, 1 MVP, 10 Total Tackles, 4 Passes Defensed
  • Jack Lambert – Pittsburgh Steelers, 4-0
  • Ted Hendricks – Baltimore Colts, Oakland Raiders, 4-0

There are so many directions the front-seven could go in. Because tackle stats weren’t officially recorded until after the 70’s ended, trying to gauge super bowl performances from some interior lineman is tough.

Nobody could argue how important “Mean” Joe Greene and Bob Lilly were to their team, but the snub of Manny Fernandez is as devastating as any.

LC Greenwood still holds the record for most career Super Bowl sacks with five, and the fact that he was part of one of the most dominant defenses of all time he clearly gets a spot. While Lawrence Taylor never lit up the boxscore during his two games, the fact that he drew so much attention from the Broncos and Bills earns him a spot in itself.

It was tough to leave Charles Haley with five rings off the list.

Ray Lewis, Jack Lambert and Ted Hendricks were all easy choices to make up a very serious linebacker unit.

Snubs:
Manny Fernandez – DT – Miami Dolphins
Henry Jordan – DT – Green Bay Packers
Alan Page – DT – Minnesota Vikings
Reggie White – DE – Green Bay Packers
Justin Tuck – DE – New York Giants
Charles Haley – OLB – San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys
Mike Vrabel – OLB – New England Patriots
Jack Ham – OLB – Pittsburgh Steelers
Teddy Bruschi – MLB – New England Patriots
