The NFL announces that Aaron Donald is this year’s NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year

Aaron Donald is the 2014 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Donald finished the year with nine sacks, 37 tackles and 2 forced fumbles. The No. 13 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Donald made an immediate impact on a struggling St. Louis Rams team.

As a senior defensive tackle at Pittsburgh, Donald tallied 59 tackles, 11 sacks and four forced fumbles. He was selected to be an All-American after establishing himself as a premier d-tackle in Pitts first season in the ACC.

A man who lacks in size compared to other NFL tackles, Donald makes up for it with speed, foot work, and sheer determination.

Just like at Pittsburgh, Donald’s presence in the trenches was felt immediately for the Rams. Last season, the Rams defense finished 24th in rushing yards. This season Donald helped improve the Rams to 19th in rushing yards despite a 6-10 record (via NFL.com).

The future looks very bright for this young star. As the Rams look to improve on a disappointing season, they have quite the young defensive linemen to build around and the number 10 pick in the NFL draft this year to do it.
