Top 5 Super Bowl National Anthem Performances
By Jack Crosby
1) Whitney Houston: Super Bowl XXV
It’s not even a close race. Everything about the performance that Whitney Houston put on prior to Super Bowl XXV between the Buffalo Bills and New York Giants in Tampa was perfection.
At the time in 1991, America was fully involved in the Gulf War, so patriotic pride was at a new height coming into the game. So, as far as timing goes, the recipe for a perfect national anthem that would hit everyone in the heart was in place. All it took was the perfect rendition from the artist, and Houston certainly delivered in this regard, as you can see above.
To this day, for a variety of events, a recording of Houston’s performance may be used, and with very good reason.
