Rapper Lil Wayne has announced on Twitter that he is going to drop an album soon, but not Tha Carter V, a free album.

Rapper Lil Wayne is feuding with his parent label Cash Money. He was supposed to drop the highly anticipated Tha Carter V album back in October of 2014, but here we are roughly four months later and the album still hasn’t come out.

Wayne came out and publicly criticized Cash Money saying he wants off the label. To appease the fans, Wayne dropped a mixtape full of free music titled “Sorry For The Wait 2.”

It is a sequel because it is the second time he released a mixtape to apologize to fans for his album being delayed.

Now Lil Wayne has announced that he is going to be releasing a new album for free. What makes this interesting is the use of the word “album.”

The previous free projects Lil Wayne has dropped, and there have been a lot, were mixtapes. A lot of those projects simply had Wayne rapping over a beat from a popular song.

The use of album suggests that it might be a project full of original music. Who knows, maybe it is tracks from the cutting room floor from Tha Carter V, maybe tracks from the album as well.

Either way that certainly has to have the hip hop community interested in intrigued by what is coming from Wayne.
