Brandon Spikes, Linebacker

Another major need for the Green Bay Packers to focus on this offseason is the linebacker position. A.J. Hawk and Brad Jones need to go this offseason, and one guy that could replace them is Buffalo Bills linebacker Brandon Spikes.

Neither Hawk or Jones looked good this past season, and they were both very weak tacklers. That is one area that Spikes will never struggle with, and he would add consistency to the middle of the Packers’ defense. Spikes didn’t make as big of a difference for the Bills as they were expecting, but he was still a very solid player throughout the year.

Spikes ended up recording 54 tackles, a forced fumble, and a sack on the season. His down year will likely drive his price down on the open market, and it would be very smart for the Packers to pursue him.

At 27 years of age, Spikes is still in the middle of his prime and has a few good years of football left to play at least. He would be an excellent leader for the Green Bay defense, and would allow Clay Matthews to focus on pass rushing once again.
