NFL QB Rankings: Top 10 signal-callers of 2014
By Will Osgood
6. Tom Brady, New England Patriots
Tom Brady, unbelievably perhaps, ranked 10th in the NFL in total passing yards during the 2014 season. Yet he ended the season with yet another ring, so he probably doesn’t care.
Of course we must recall that the Patriots were left for dead after an embarrassing loss on Monday Night Football at Kansas City in Week 4. Brady was benched in that game (well really it was a matter of Bill Belichick wisely throwing in the towel, but it sounded cool). The media was ready to declare the Patriots’ and Tom Brady’s time atop the football world done.
Not including a Week 17 loss at Buffalo in which he barely played, Brady never regressed past a 76 QB Rating and only once completed less than 60 percent of his, Week 7 versus the Jets (again not including Week 17).
Overall Brady completed a higher percentage of passes, 64.1, than in all but three other seasons. And his 33 touchdown passes was his fifth best season to date. Oh yeah, and he was mostly fabulous in the postseason, though he made a few head-scratching throws up the seam which were intercepted. Aside from those throws he was basically perfect.
I guess Tommy Boy’s still got it.
