‘Fifty Shades of Grey’: UK stocks up on bondage supplies

Hardware stores in the UK are stocking their shelves with plenty of film-related “props”, as they expect to see a spike in sales following the film’s release this weekend.

Just when you thought the phenomenon couldn’t get any more disconcerting.

The highly anticipated erotic-drama film Fifty Shades of Grey based on the *cough* novel *cough* of the same name hits theaters this weekend and one UK hardware chain is girding its loins.

The UK hardware store chain B&Q sent a memo to its 20,000 employees imploring them to familiarize themselves with the novel and/or film in preparation for customer requests for… certain items.

The chain is even going so far as to lending out copies of the *cough* novel *cough* to its employees so they can “educate” themselves on such matters.

Sadly, this isn’t just wishful thinking on B&Q’s part. Back when the *cough* novel *cough* was released in 2012, hardware stores in the UK did in fact receive an influx of demand for items such as rope and duct tape.

*shudder*

Fifty Shades tells the story of student Anastasia Steele and her relationship with wealthy entrepreneur Christian Grey, whose scandalous love affair develops into a dominant-submissive relationship.

But many who actually participate in the culture have criticized the film for passing off Anastasia and Christian’s “agreement” as a BDSM relationship when it’s actually more along the lines of a straight up abusive one.

Remember when your parents told you that movies aren’t real and you shouldn’t take them at face value? Yea, this is that times infinity.

I can only imagine the emergency room will be receiving their own influx of stupid people who maybe shouldn’t have trusted a hardware employee to guide them on their journey into the kink.

If only there were certain places you could go that sold things specifically designed for such activities and allowed you to speak to people who actually participate

in them who may actually know what the hell they’re talking about.

On the other hand, this whole debacle may result in some incredibly hilarious conversations between unfortunate hardware employees and senior citizens inquiring about nipple clamps.

Sounds like a YouTube series in the making. Fifty Shades of Grey hits theaters tomorrow.
