2015 NFL Draft: Who helped/hurt themselves the most at the combine?
By R. Phillips
Helped: Vic Beasley, DE/OLB, Clemson
Beasley has always been a solid, consistent contributor for Clemson, but I never saw him as an outstanding athlete. I am happy to report, I was wrong.
Beasley dominated the third day of the combine to jump up into the mid first-round discussion. It was an outstanding showing that not many saw coming, since he never really used his athleticism to dominate games in college. Instead, at Clemson he relied on his instincts and ability to react to plays.
After checking in at 6-foot-3 and 246 pounds, Beasley smoked the competition with a 4.53-second 40-yard dash to take the top spot among linebackers (though he worked out with the defensive linemen). He also topped all of his peers by logging 35 reps on his bench press, four more than his closest competition. He finished in the top five among linebackers in the vertical jump (41 inches), broad jump (130 inches), three-cone drill (6.91 seconds) and the 20-yard shuttle (4.15 seconds).
Beasley basically took the third day of this year’s combine and made it all about him. He dominated and his stock is sure to rise rapidly as a result.
