Hello Avaya!

It took long enough, however the two-time MLS Cup champion San Jose Earthquakes have a place to call home.

The Quakes held a soft-opening of the new Avaya Stadium on Saturday afternoon, taking down the defending champ L.A. Galaxy 3-2 in a preseason match, their final one before opening week.

The Quakes have to hope that Avaya Stadium can help with the playoff troubles the team has suffered since returning to MLS in 2008.  Since their reincarnation, the Quakes have only made the playoffs twice in the seven years since returning, a complete 180 from the original incarnation that went to the playoffs for five straight years, winning two MLS Cups (2001, 2003).

San Jose also hasn’t finished better than sixth in the West since returning to the league.

Next: Happy homecoming!
