Chargers interested in Stevie Johnson, Cecil Shorts, Michael Crabtree

The San Diego Chargers are interested in three receivers.
After missing out on the playoffs in 2014, the San Diego Chargers will be looking to make it back to the postseason in 2015. Although Philip Rivers, one of the NFL‘s most underrated quarterbacks, is back for the 2015 season, the fact remains that the Chargers need to bring in more talent at the wide receiver position.
Right now, with Eddie Royal signing with the Chicago Bears, the Chargers’ only established pass-catchers are Keenan Allen, Antonio Gates, and Malcolm Floyd. With that being said, it’s no surprise that the Chargers are interested in three receivers.
According to Michael Gehlken, one of the Chargers’ beat writers, the Chargers are interested in Stevie Johnson, Cecil Shorts, and Michael Crabtree.

As Chargers fans saw in 2014, more weapons are needed at Rivers’ arsenal. All three of these players would fit extremely well as they would all come in and play the No. 2 role across from Allen. Although they’re not ideal No. 1 receivers, Johnson, Shorts, and Crabtree have spent the majority of their careers as No. 1 options. When Johnson was with the Buffalo Bills, he performed extremely well, despite not having reliable quarterback play. When Shorts was with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he also produced and he also did not have reliable quarterback play. Crabtree, on the other hand, hasn’t exceed expectations in his career.
If the Chargers are to make it back to the playoffs, they need to get better play from their receivers outside of Allen and Gates. Because of their lack of talent at the No. 2 receiver position, Allen saw a dip in his production. San Diego has one of the better quarterbacks in the league and for them to get the most out of him, they need to put more talent around him. Bringing in one of these receivers will do just that.
