Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin finally decided to play defense and he was rewarded with a puck to the nuts.

Now we know why Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin never wants to play defense.

More from NHL

On Sunday night, Ovechkin and the Capitals were taking on the Boston Bruins when the Russian star put forward some effort in the first time in what seems to be forever. While playing defense, Ovechkin was rewarded with a swift puck to the nuts.

Ouch.

That had to hurt.

Upon further review, Ovechkin wasn’t actually playing defense. He just skated in front of the net and the puck found his junk. Inadvertently deflecting a shot with your man parts is still better than just gliding into empty space, so we will give Alex Ovechkin at least that little bit of credit.

Whether or not he ever decides to play defense or not remains to be seen.

The good news for Ovi is that the Capitals went on to win, 2-0. The bad news for the Capitals and their fans is that the team is still well behind the Metropolitan Division leading New York Rangers. Washington (37-23-10) is in fourth-place behind the Rangers, New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins.
