Machine Gun Kelly releases new video ‘Me Against the World’

He’s the beanpole, bar-spitting, tattooed maverick with a proclivity for properly laced footwear. He’s also the only white rapper ever to win a battle at Harlem’s legendary Apollo Theater. Taking his sobriquet from a notorious sub-machine gun toting gangster from the prohibition era, Cleveland’s Machine Gun Kelly’s star continues to rise.

The son of missionary parents, MGK first broke into the rap game with a series of underground mix tapes, eventually signing with Sean Combs and Bad Boy Records.  Eschewing the regular trappings of most hip-hop artists, MGK continues to push and spread the genre in different directions, sometimes more successfully than others.

The rapper’s new video for his track  ‘Me Against the World’ is an interesting piece of work. The song opens on a green hillside overlooking what appears to be a small town. A light piano line plays as a singer who very well may be Alvin from the Chipmunks sucks on a helium balloon then sings about his mistakes.  Dressed in skinny jeans Karen Carpenter couldn’t squeeze into, MGK sports his traditional Chuck Taylor’s as he tromps over and approaches a figure that looks like Halloween’s Mike Myers sporting a shirt and tie combo right out of the offices of Best Buy’s Geek Squad.

MGK squats down and looks at Mike Myers or possibly a Slipknot fan in his Sunday Best. The mysterious figure offers Machine Gun an unimpressive wad of cash and….DROP! Machine Gun Kelly smacks it out of his hand, yo!

Possibly pissed his barber couldn’t schedule him in for a much needed bang trim, MGK goes off on how it’s him against the world. Later in the video, MGK apes Bob Dylan by peeling off title cards while rapping how he doesn’t want to be Chris Farley and doesn’t drink coffee.

Interesting. Lace up and see for yourself.
