Art Ross Trophy

Excluding the lockout shortened season two years ago, for the first time since Martin St. Louis won the Art Ross Trophy in 2003-2004, the scoring champion will have fewer than 100 points. Sidney Crosby leads the NHL with 74 points in 67 games and is projected to win his third Ross Trophy in his career.

He won the award last year with 104 points but is only projected to score 85 points this year. That will be the lowest full regular season total for a scoring champion since Bobby Hull’s 84 points in the 1961-1962 season.

Crosby is not a slam dunk pick to win the Ross this year with Alex Ovechkin, John Tavares and Jakub Voracek trailing “The Kid” by one point and Nicklas Backstrom trailing by two points, but you can’t go wrong picking Crosby for the Ross, so he’s the pick.
.
