5 teams that need to think about trading for Philip Rivers

Tennessee Titans

Right now the starting quarterback for the Tennessee Titans is Zach Mettenberger.

I happen to like Mettenberger a lot, but am nowhere near as confident in his abilities as I am Rivers. The downside here (for Rivers) is that this offensive line is almost as poor as the Chargers were last season.  However, Michael Roos and Taylor Lewan looked good, Chance Warmack has shown flashes and Andy Levitre should bounce back this season. They jettisoned Michael Oher, who was dead weight last season, and could pick up some more depth if need be.

In other words, I think this line is trending up.

The big question is whether or not the team has the weapons to make it worth grabbing Rivers.

Kendall Wright was solid while Justin Hunter have had some decent moments and they could bring Nate Washington back after a decent season. If Hunter gets more consistent with catching the ball he could be a nice threat for Rivers.

Delanie Walker also played very well last season.

If they could get the run game going, that could only help, though it would be helpful to have a quarterback under center who will keep the defense from just shoving players in the box to stop the run because they don’t respect the pass.

The Titans could go a lot of different ways with that No. 2 pick as it is and while NFL.com’s Conor Orr has reported that the team might be smitten with Marcus Mariota, you again run the risk of plugging a guy in who will probably be thrown to the wolves (or Colts or Texans or Jaguars) far too quickly and struggle to develop.

The team also has other needs of course, and might be better off moving in a different direction, but putting Rivers into the mix under center would improve their offense a ton and be far better prepared than Mariota would be or Mettenberger is.
