The Frozen Four has featured it’s fair share of controversy, as Minnesota State-Mankato has a gripe to pick after a questionable goal was allowed and derailed their season.

Each year, the Frozen Four brings the world the best hockey colleges in the world and makes them battle it out for the National Championship in a way that no other sports can know. The March Madness tournament is close to the intensity of the Frozen Four, but there’s just something about the tournment that addicts fans left and right each year.

The high level of drama often times leads to close games and tight calls — something that was seen on Saturday between Minnesota State-Mankato and R.I.T. The Mustangs were the No. 1 seed in their region, but were bumped off by R.I.T. after a questionable late game call that allowed a goal that was initially disallowed.

Minnesota State was back in the game late in the third period but got the raw end of what appeared to be a bad call from the start. On the goal, the Minnesota State-Makato goalie was shoved by his own player, who appeared to have been guided by an R.I.T. skater. This lead to the goal intially being disallowed before the call was overturned.

It’s hard to say which was the right call here, as the goal was initially disallowed, but upon replay, it was overturned and ruled a goal for R.I.T. That changed the game with under six minutes left to play as it took a game that had been tied and made it a 2-1 lead in favor of R.I.T.

This wasn’t the only questionable call on the day in the Frozen Four. In the game between Denver and Boston Collage, a goal was allowed despite the net seeming to move before the puck had crossed the goal line.

It’s without a doubt one of the more controversial calls of the tournament so far, and it’s one that unfortunately has ended the promising season of Minnesota State-Mankato.
