Chicago Bears

  • 2014 Finish: 5-11, 4th in NFC North
  • Top Positional Need: Interior Defensive Lineman

It only took ownership two years to realize what an absolute disaster Phil Emery and Marc Trestman were.

Now a general manager by the name of Ryan Pace with a face of a 17-year old assumes a down talent base.

Bears Interior Defensive Lineman:

  • Jay Ratliff (LE)
  • Will Sutton (NT)
  • Ego Ferguson (RE)

The Bears defense finished 30th in the league last year with a cool 377.1 yards given up per game. So what do they do? Hire longtime defensive mind John Fox and allow him to bring his 3-4 scheme to town.

Transitioning from a 4-3 to a 3-4 has its challenges.

First you need to identify the guys who cannot make the transition. Veteran Jared Allen is probably one of them. He’s too small to play the interior and way too slow to play the edge these days. At best Allen will be mixed into some sub packages against the pass.

Where Chicago will really have to bulk up is the defensive front.

Will Sutton is currently their starting nose tackle and he only weighs 303 lbs. That is unacceptable in the world of 3-4 coaches.

Drafting in the No. 7 hole of the first round, Pace and Fox can easily go with best available. Nose tackle and defensive end need to be addressed shortly thereafter.
